Whether you're a soccer fan, the FIFA World Cup is a major international event. The event will take place in 2022 and will be contested by men's national teams from FIFA member associations.
Argentina vs Netherlands
Even though it was not an easy match to watch, the World Cup 2022 game between Argentina and Netherlands had its fair share of thrills. It was a high-stakes affair, and there was some drama in the form of three mass brawls. The match was not over until the final whistle blew.
The game started with an initial coin toss that needed to be clarified on several levels. The first yellow card went to the Netherlands, while the most notable of the fouls was awarded to Argentina's Leandro Paredes. In the match's early stages, the Dutch played long balls over the Argentinian high line.
The Netherlands also showed off their ability to keep the ball on the ground. However, the Dutch have struggled to thread the passing together in the final third.
Portugal vs Morocco
Defending world champions Portugal are in a great position to make it to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after a 6-1 win over Switzerland in the pre-quarterfinals. However, Morocco has the tools to beat them.
The Atlas Lions have had a great tournament so far. They earned a goalless draw with Croatia but recovered to defeat the World's second ranked team, Belgium, on penalties. They also topped a group that featured the likes of Croatia, Spain, and South Korea.
For a country that has only made it to the World Cup quarterfinals once in 12 years, they have had an incredible run. They have played the World's second, seventh, and 12th-ranked teams in the tournament. They have had just one goal conceded in the four matches they have played in Qatar.
USMNT vs surprise call-ups
Despite its dismal September friendlies, the USMNT has a chance to make a run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The roster announced Tuesday was quite a surprise, particularly regarding the inclusions.
The roster features the return of two English-born players. Antalyaspor's Haji Wright and Londoner Antonee Robinson are among the call-ups. However, the United States will also be without its top goalkeeper, Jordan Peek.
While the roster was a surprise, it's not the kind of shocking announcement that the U.S. made in 2014 when Jurgen Klinsmann chose to drop Landon Donovan to the side.
In addition to the four invitees, the U.S. will be missing five other players who were not among the 38 qualifiers. That means only 16 of the 21 goals the USMNT has scored so far have come from invitees.
