A Musical About the Life of Tina Turner
Next up is A Musical About the Life of Tina Turner, after a run in Chicago this fall. The musical is an adaptation of the life story of the legendary performer, written by Katori Hall (Holler If Ya Hear Me) and directed by Diane Paulus. The music is composed by Pharrell Williams, who also co-wrote and produced songs for the Hamilton Mixtape (“The Room Where It Happens”).

An Untitled Play by Jeremy O. Harris
One of the most exciting new plays on Broadway will be “An Untitled Play by Jeremy O. Harris.” It’s about an American family, their relationship with each other, and how they live out the American Dream (or don’t). The play is being written as you’re reading this sentence. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Hollywood – A New Musical
The new musical, titled Hollywood – A New Musical, will be written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. The show is about making a movie in Hollywood and how everyone involved deals with this high-pressure situation.
Jeremy Jordan will star as an aspiring actor who gets his big break when he lands his first major role. He’s joined by the rest of the cast but has yet to be announced.
Suzan Stroman will direct the production set to open on Broadway in December 2022 at Studio 54!
The Money
The Money is the latest show to be announced for Broadway in 2022, and it’s sure to be a hit. The musical is based on the life of Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas in the 1987 film Wall Street. It’s directed by Rupert Goold (who also directed Hamilton at London’s National Theatre), with music composed by Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening).
The book for The Money was written by Maureen Shelly, who won an Oscar for best screenplay adaptation when she adapted her novel into a movie called Fatal Attraction. This version will explore how greed can cause people to lose touch with their values. This theme seems especially relevant today as we see more discussions about income inequality than ever before!
An American in Paris: The Musical
An American in Paris: The Musical is a stage adaptation of the 1951 film of the same name, which was an adaptation of George Gershwin’s 1924 symphonic jazz suite with lyrics by his brother Ira. The musical follows struggling artist Jerry Mulligan as he traveled to Paris in 1929 and falls in love with Lise Dassin, an aspiring dancer at Le Château de la Seine. It premiered on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on October 3rd, 2018, and closed on January 6th, 2019, after 91 performances.
The director for An American in Paris: The Musical is Christopher Wheeldon (who also directed Billy Elliot the Musical), who won Tony Awards for choreography in both those productions. He has also staged numerous other shows, including Anastasia (2018) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2004). He will be assisted by Alex Sanchez-Witzel, who has previously worked as an assistant director on Once On This Island (2019).
Sing Street
Sing Street is a musical drama film released in 2016. It was directed by John Carney and written by John Carney and Gary Clark, based on the latter’s original 1980s-set script about his adolescence in Dublin.
Sing Street is a coming-of-age comedy set during the ’80s when Ralph Cosham (Cillian Murphy) pays for his band to record an album after his father finds out about it. After being told that they can’t use their school’s name on the album cover, he creates the fictional “Sing Street” as a pseudonym for them to use instead.
The movie also stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo as Conor O’Neill; Lucy Boynton as Raphina; Jack Reynor as Cosmo Sheehan; Aidan Gillen as Brendan J Byrne; Mark McKenna as Trevor Moran; David Rawle as Davey Moore; Aidan McGinley as Paul Sherrard.
Fun Home
The musical Fun Home, based on Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic memoir of the same name and features music and lyrics by Jeanine Tesori and a book by Lisa Kron, will open on Broadway in 2020.
Jesus Christ Superstar Live Arena Tour
Jesus Christ Superstar Live is the latest production from Andrew Lloyd Webber, who has created many popular musicals such as Cats and Phantom of the Opera. It tells the story of Jesus’ final days before his crucifixion and resurrection, using music from Lloyd Webber’s original rock opera (which was released in 1970) and Rice’s album version (released in 1971). The show follows Pontius Pilate as he tries to solve a problem involving Jesus’ popularity with Jewish people. Pilate attempts to stop this by taking him into custody for trial before Herod Antipas—who eventually decides not to execute him. This leads Pilate to sentence Jesus instead.
